It would be churlish to ask which Mediterranean cuisine this pasty comes from; it does tick the usual boxes when you see the word “Mediterranean” on a UK menu. I was expecting a vaguely tomato sauce, maybe something herbal, maybe (following the outstanding Mexican chicken pasty) a colossal whack of garlic.
What I did get (in the usual small-but-perfectly-formed puff pastry package) was tomato sauce with moderate amounts of garlic and basil (possibly oregano) and a lovely mouthful of peppers. As ever the solid bits were few and far between but the flavours were superbly balanced. This recipe had the potential to be boring as hell but it’s really nice!
Verdict: 9/10 – highly recommended
